NEHS Book of the Week
The National Honors Society Book of the Week suggestion is All the Light We Cannot See, by Anthony Doerr. It's a historical fiction novel centered around World War II. It shifts perspectives between two young protagonists whose lives unfold on opposite sides of the war. First, there’s Marie-Laure. She’s a blind French girl who flees Paris with her father as the Nazis take over. Then, there’s Werner, a gifted German orphan who gets recruited into the Hitler Youth for his talent fixing radios. As their lives slowly converge, the book explores themes of hope and humanity. Read All the Light We Cannot See for intricate, heartbreaking perspectives and Anthony Doerr’s brilliant writing.

CY Hacks

The CYHS iTeam will host CYHacks ’26, a hackathon, on Saturday, April 25, from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM at the CYHS Library and Learning Hub. Participants in grades 6 through college are welcome to spend the day working on their competition entry or attend one or more seminars. Alternatively, they can work independently to enhance their computer science skills. Younger students may attend for all or part of the day, but a parent or guardian is required to accompany them. Competitors collaborate in small groups or individually to program a project based on the event’s theme. The projects can encompass games, websites, and applications. Students from all over the region are encouraged to participate.

This year, we have added an “open house” style session from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, specifically designed for younger students, including Pre-K through middle school. The session will feature Hour of Code/AI activities, unplugged experiences, a makerspace, and cybersecurity-related fun.
